The final countdown for NaNoWriMo is here. Are you prepared? Well, the good news is that you don’t need to be.
I have drafted up some random scenes over the last few months. I summarized the parts I wanted to keep and added them to index cards then arranged them in the approximate order I want to go in. This is me being WAY more prepared than I was last year.
Even though I didn’t have index cards and outlines last year, I still finished a novel. This year I’m just hoping this round will give me a slightly better first draft with beefier details than my last novel.
The wonderful thing about breaking through that “first novel” barrier is that every one gets easier after that. You gain the confidence to know that you CAN do this. You can write a novel. Maybe you can’t write them all in 30 days, but you can do it.
So many people try to write novels, and NaNoWriMo gives people a way to do it. It gives them community, support, and a cheer-leading squad.
No matter how prepared or unprepared you are, at midnight tonight your world will change for the next 30 days. Even if you don’t end up with a novel, you’ll emerge on the other side a different writer than you were before.
How prepared do you feel?
